Marist’s Tevita Latu Recommits to SBS Bank Southland Stags

Explosive attacking Utility Back Tevita Latu has committed to his third season with the SBS Bank Southland Stags.

Tevita, 23, made his debut for Southland in 2020 at Rugby Park against Hawkes Bay, a famous victory that is a highlight from his time in the jersey.

With two seasons, and 8 games to date, Tevita has been unlucky not to have more time on the field, although injury has hampered those efforts, with surgery needed putting him out of the club season.

For Attack Coach James Wilson, Tevita committing to the Stags for a third season is a promising sign for the season to come.

“We see huge potential in Tevita and what he can do for us this season when he returns fully from his shoulder rehab. Tevita’s had his fair share of challenges in his young career to date, but we can see he’s using these setbacks as motivation to get back on the field and show us what he’s capable of. When Tevita is fit and healthy he’s a genuine game breaker as he’s shown Southland crowds before, we very much look forward to seeing that again this season”, said Wilson.

Tevita is returning to play and contact training in time for Stags assembly in Mid-July, and is looking to once again, make more memories on par with his the victory over Hawkes Bay in 2020.
