The SBS Bank Southland Stags have announced the signing of lock Mike McKee, who missed last season due to injury. McKee is currently playing for Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby and is one of the most experienced Stags players named to date in the 2023 squad.
McKee, who hails from Waikaia in Northern Southland, brings a wealth of experience and mana to the jersey. He is one of the most capped players in the squad and has represented the Southland Stags in numerous campaigns.
"I'm really looking forward to getting back down to the deep south to get into some work with the lads," McKee said. "Not being able to play last year due to injury gets me excited to see what this season will bring for us as a province."
Director of Rugby Matt Saunders expressed his excitement about the return of McKee to the team. "Mike is back to full fitness with Moana Pasifika. When he is at his peak, he is a high-quality, extremely skillful lock. We are looking for him to make a big impact this year."
