Rotorua hosted the 2018 Womens and Mens National sevens competition where Southland had two teams competing for first time since 2015. Day 1 was structured with 3 games for both teams with the Mens competing against Wellington, Tasman and Northland and the Womens team qualified in a tough pool with Auckland, Counties and Hawkes Bay. Day 2 held mixted results for the Mens team with a win against Mid Canterbury and a loses against Hawkes Bay and Northland ceasing their chances of progression to a final. The Women's team however had a win over Poverty Bay sending them to the Bowl Final where the defeated North Harbour 25-nil taking home the silverware. The structure of sevens Nationals will also be refined with the location and date changing to enhance auidence attendance and maximise participation with being earlier in the summer.
