Te Anau rugby begin year positively

Te Anau rugby has started off the season with a roar with a combined coach and player development filled weekend. Friday 16th March, 7 Rugby Southland representatives (5 staff and 2 Southland rep coaches) travelled to Te Anau to deliver coaching courses to both junior and senior coaches. The courses support coaches with resources, ideas and techniques on how to be an effective, organised and engaging with their teams.

Saturday was a practical session for all ages for all of Northern Southland. All coaches then had the opportunity to put theory from the previous night into a practical setting taking elements of the skills day themselves. The rippa rugby group learnt the skill of passing and then had game time learning how to build a wall and pass while runnning. Year 1 & 2 tackle covered areas like technique refining of the tackle and beginning to understand position specific skills and playing with shape. The 3rd year tackle (A Grade) group built on position specific techniques and spent time on set piece. Higher age groups such as Under 15's and the senior teams also had coaching support and demonstrations for the remainder of Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Rugby Southland look’s forward to seeing the progress of coaches over the coming season and seeing players absorb the knowledge and their skills develop supporting them to reach higher levels of rugby and enjoy the game throughout their years.
