The SIT Zero Fees Southland Stags have started their season with a hiss and a roar.
The Stags lead 10-6 at halftime over Northland, with an oustanding full field try scored by Isaac Te Tamaki that had the crowd on their feet and in full noise.
Phil Halder scored in the corner off the set piece and Stags rookie Josh Moorby scored an end to end try to bring the scores close to level.
In the end the SIT Zero Fees Southland Stags went down 27-17 in a game full of positives.
The Stags next game is this Saturday against Otago for the Ranfurly Shield at Forsyth Barr kicking off 4.35pm.
