Rugby Southland CEO 

About the role:

As our Chief Executive Officer, you will provide leadership, management, strategic direction, and the ultimate success of Rugby Southland. You will collaborate with the Board of Directors and Senior Management team to accomplish the mission, vision, and accountability of the organisation to its diverse constituents. You will provide bold and innovative thought leadership and build commercial strategies and alliances aligned to current and future needs of the organisation. 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of business planning that secures financial security for Rugby Southland.
  • Develop, review, and implement organisational policies and ensure adherence.
  • Lead organisation and staff effectively, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. 
  • Establish and maintain performance review processes and oversee recruitment within budget.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the Board and ensure all necessary information is provided to enable them to fulfil their responsibilities and obligations. 
  • Report on communications, funding, and relationships, offering recommendations to the Board.
  • Meet budgetary goals and ensure financial stability through responsible resource management.
  • Lead annual budget development with department input and enforce accountability.
  • Collaborate with Audit and Risk Committee to maintain budget, report variances, and make recommendations.
  • Monitor department budgets for savings, retaining them with board approval.
  • Develops proactive PR across media channels.
  • Establishes efficient communication systems.
  • Manages the concept and future development of a new purpose-built facility development concept. 
  • Seeks opportunities to host super rugby or other rugby matches and manage their compliance.
  • Ensures RS meets their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 by complying with the company’s health and safety management plan.
  • Forwards compliant reports to the board along with any concerns of non-compliance.

As the successful candidate, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in business management or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in an executive management role, showcasing strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Previous experience reporting to a board of directors, either directly or indirectly.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning and financial analysis.
